Santenay 1st Cru Blanc, 2023 Clos Des Gravieres by Bachey Legros, Burgundy, France
$72.00
Regular price $49.00This is a serious white Burgundy made from 100% Chardonnay, from the Premier Cru Clos des Gravières vineyard in the northern part of Santenay, close to Chassagne-Montrachet.
The 2023 vintage shows the richer, more generous side of Santenay while retaining the acidity and mineral character expected from the Côte de Beaune. The wine is described with aromas and flavors of white peach, lemon zest, white flowers, honey, beeswax and hazelnut, with subtle, well-integrated oak.
The vineyard's limestone-rich, stony soils help give the wine its freshness and mineral precision. Bachey-Legros uses oak fermentation and extended barrel aging, with bâtonnage, adding a creamy texture and depth without overwhelming the Chardonnay.
Style: Dry, full-bodied, elegant and mineral
Grape: 100% Chardonnay
Alcohol: approximately 13–13.7%
Aromas: White flowers, citrus, peach, honey, hazelnut, subtle vanilla/oak
Palate: Rich and silky, with bright acidity, mineral character and a long finish
Serve: About 11–12°C
Pair with: Lobster, scallops, shrimp, grilled or roasted fish, roast chicken, creamy poultry dishes, and soft cheeses.
This is a rich but refined white Burgundy — a particularly attractive choice for someone who enjoys the texture and depth of Chassagne-Montrachet but wants a wine with a little more value and a distinctly Santenay mineral edge.
