Mercurey Rouge, 2023 by Agnes du Couedic
$39.99
Regular price $34.99The Mercurey wines are bigger and richer that other reds in the Cote Chalonnaise. Some writers have compared them to Pommards, yet ready to drink sooner. They are among the best wines in Burgundy. Mercurey.
Mercurey Rouge 2023 by Agnès du Couëdic is a classic red Burgundy from Mercurey in the Côte Chalonnaise, an area particularly well known for producing expressive, food-friendly Pinot Noir at a more approachable price than many Côte de Beaune appellations.
Grape: 100% Pinot Noir
Style: Dry, medium-bodied red Burgundy
Alcohol: Approximately 13%
Aromas: Red cherry, raspberry, red currant, violet, and subtle earthy/mineral notes.
Palate: Fresh and silky, with bright acidity, fine tannins, red-fruit character, gentle spice, and a mineral-tinged finish.
The 2023 vintage shows the elegant, fresh side of Burgundy Pinot Noir rather than being overly heavy. Mercurey's clay-limestone soils contribute freshness and minerality, while Pinot Noir provides the delicate red-fruit and floral character. The wine is approachable now but has enough structure to develop further with bottle age.
Food pairings: It's particularly good with roast chicken, duck, veal, pork, mushrooms, beef, or game, and it would be excellent alongside classic Burgundy dishes.
Serving: Around 58–61°F (15–16°C), with a little aeration before serving.
A very attractive everyday-to-special-occasion Burgundy Pinot Noir—silky, fruity, earthy, and refined without the weight or price of a top Côte de Beaune Burgundy.
